Ignou (“the App”) is an educational mobile application developed by AmitonMission. The App helps students access study material, links, and tools related to the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Personal Information

We do not:

  • Create user accounts inside the app
  • Ask you to sign up or log in
  • Collect, store, or share your name, email, phone number, address, or any other personal profile data

We do not store or upload your IGNOU enrollment number or any university credentials on our servers.

2.2 Non-Personal Information

Some non-personal data may be collected automatically by third-party services used in the app (such as Firebase and Google AdMob). This may include:

  • Device model and operating system
  • Anonymous app usage statistics
  • Advertising identifiers (for showing ads)

This information is used only for analytics, app performance, and advertising, and it does not directly identify you.

3. Password-Protected PDFs from the University

The app provides links to official IGNOU or university websites where students can download PDF files such as grade cards, hall tickets, or other documents.

  • These PDFs are hosted and controlled by the university, not by us.
  • Some of these PDFs may be password protected by the university.
  • In such cases, the password is usually the student’s enrollment number or the file name before “.pdf”, as instructed by the university.
  • The App does not:
    • Generate these passwords
    • Store these passwords
    • Collect or upload your enrollment number

Any password you enter to open a PDF is used locally on your device to unlock the file. We do not see, store, or transmit this password or your enrollment number to any server controlled by us.

This feature is provided only to help you open documents downloaded directly from the official university website. It is not related to any privacy or data breach from our side.

4.1 WebView and External Websites

The App may open university or educational websites inside an in-app browser (WebView) or your default browser.

  • We do not log or store your browsing history.
  • We do not modify the university websites.
  • Each external website you visit may have its own privacy policy, which you should review separately.

4.2 Downloading PDF Files

The App allows you to download PDF files that are hosted on university or educational websites.

  • Files are downloaded directly from the university/website servers to your device.
  • We do not auto-download any files. A download starts only when you tap or choose to download a file.
  • We do not collect or store the content of these PDFs.
  • All downloaded files are stored locally on your device, and you have full control over them.

4.3 Sharing PDF Files

The App may provide a simple option to share PDFs using your device’s built-in share menu.

  • Sharing is completely user-initiated.
  • We do not upload shared files to our own server.
  • We do not track what you share or with whom you share it.

5. Push Notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging)

The App uses Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to send educational updates, reminders, and important notifications.

  • FCM may generate a device token to deliver notifications to your device.
  • This token is handled by Firebase and may be used to send notifications to a group of users (for example, by topic).
  • We do not use this token to identify you personally.
  • We do not store any personal user data linked to this token in our own database.

You can disable notifications at any time from your device notification settings.

6. Educational Content (Supabase)

The App uses Supabase as a backend service to fetch read-only educational content, such as notes, links, or study material.

  • We only read data from Supabase that we have uploaded as educational content.
  • We do not upload or store your personal data in Supabase.
  • We do not store your enrollment number or any private university credentials in Supabase.

7. Advertisements (Google AdMob)

The App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements.

  • AdMob may collect device identifiers and use cookies or similar technologies to show personalized or non-personalized ads.
  • These identifiers are controlled by Google and ad partners and are not directly controlled by us.
  • You can manage ad personalization from your Google account or device settings.

8. Data Security

We do not run our own server that stores your personal account data. The main data handling is done by trusted third-party services such as:

  • Google Firebase
  • Google AdMob
  • Supabase

These services use secure HTTPS connections for data transfer. While no system can be 100% secure, these providers implement industry-standard security measures.

Since we do not store personal profile data (such as name, email, or password) on our own servers, the risk of identity exposure from our side is minimal.

9. Children’s Privacy

This App can be used by students of different ages, including college and university students.

  • We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
  • We do not provide features that require children to submit personal information to use the App.

If you believe that a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us, and we will take appropriate action.

10. User Controls and Choices

You have the following controls:

  • Notifications: You can turn app notifications on or off at any time in your device’s system settings.
  • Ads: You can limit or disable personalized ads through your Google account or device ad settings.
  • Downloads: You can delete any downloaded PDF or file directly from your device storage.
  • Browser: You can choose not to open any external links if you do not wish to visit external websites.

The App may contain links to external websites or services (for example, IGNOU official website, university portals, cloud storage links, etc.).

  • These websites are not operated by us.
  • We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those external sites.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App or legal requirements.

  • When we update the policy, we will change the “Effective Date” at the top.
